There are great ways for our students to extend science, math and technology skills using robots. This video clip is an example of the winning team for First LEGO league in the state of Virginia this past season.  Here is the local newspaper feature about our Prism grant at James Madison University.  The challenge mat for this year’s mission has arrived.  Now I need to figure out who is on our Mountain View Elementary School team.

We then divided into six groups and took digital cameras around the school yard to discover examples of the Fibonacci Number Sequence in Nature.

0, 1, 1, 2,3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597…

One group discovered the sequence when they counted the petal on the Black Eyed Susan. Other groups found it on the pinecones and sunflowers.sunflower The sunflower head displays florets in spirals of 34 and 55 around the outside.
